In the heart of Thessaly, the Municipality of Trikala — Greece’s first smart city — is once again leading by example with its e-Parking System, a project that brilliantly combines technology, sustainability, and social impact.
Powered by the Novoville platform, the app Parkaro & Voltaro, is changing how residents and visitors manage parking. Through a simple mobile app, users can top up their digital wallet, pay for parking in real-time, and apply for permanent permits with just a few taps. Enforcement officers are also equipped with a smart inspection app, enabling real-time monitoring and efficient enforcement.
But Trikala’s system isn’t just about convenience—it’s about community. A portion of the system’s revenue is used to support low-income households by covering part of their electricity bills. To date, more than 1,500 vulnerable families have benefited, and over 2.2 million kWh of energy costs have been offset.
And the results speak for themselves:
32% reduction in traffic congestion
50% increase in available parking spaces
Over 870,000 hours of logged parking time
21,000+ active users
With plans to expand to e-bike parking integration, Trikala continues to push forward on its mission toward climate neutrality and greener urban living.
